Newborn Sessions.
Introducing a new baby into your family is one of life’s most joyful moments. Whether it’s your first baby or your sixth, it is such a special time that deserves to be remembered and cherished for years to come.
After many years photographing newborns and their families, I came to the conclusion that I really enjoy photographing new babies in their purest form. This means that I use very little props, I use only natural light and I try to capture the very essence of your newborn with classic, timeless and natural images. Babies are so perfect already so I use my skills to highlight their perfection, without the distraction of fiddly props or outfits. I create images that will stand the test of time and when you look at them in twenty years, hanging on the wall of your living room, they will still look beautiful and elegant.
In addition to creating timeless photos, I also really try to capture who you are, as a family. While I will always attempt to get the perfect shot of everyone looking and smiling at the camera (I call it the grandparent shot!), I feel the magic lies in the less posed moments of your session. The smile of a new mama as she’s looking down at her baby, your toddlers little finger booping your newborns nose, a new dad enveloping his wife and new son in his arms- these are the moments that make your session come alive. As time moves on and your babies grow from children, into teens, then adults, these little moments captured are what I believe you will crave to look back on. Because it’s these little unscripted minutes of your life that will remind you of that very short, gone-in-the-blink-of-an-eye moment, when your family welcomed its newest little member.
Toddlers and Other Children at Newborn Sessions.
Having your other children be a part of your baby’s newborn session is actually one of my favourite parts of my job. Toddlers and children add something extra special to any photoshoot- in large part due to the fact that they are so unpredictable and you never know what is going to happen! This makes for truly fun, memorable and realistic photos. I generally like to tell my clients that if you have a toddler at the shoot (especially in your own home), then the toddler calls the shots! Quite often, I let myself and the rest of the family, be lead by the toddler and it pretty much always works to our advantage. So please do not stress before your shoot about how your other children might behave or that they might not smile for the camera. I pride myself on winning over toddlers and sometimes even enlist their help to take a few shots of mum and dad. I will also never pressure your toddler or older child to do anything they aren’t comfortable doing, but I do try and get to know them and show them how fun having your photo taken can be (they are also able to stop for snacks or a break while I photograph baby on their own). Ultimately, my main goal (apart from creating beautiful images!) is to make your shoot as relaxed, fun and stress-free as possible.
